Changes of IELTS Requirements in 2024 for Student Visa
As of 2024, there have been updates to the IELTS requirements for obtaining a student visa. The Australian government has adjusted the English language proficiency standards to ensure that international students can effectively engage with their chosen course of study.
The revised IELTS requirements now demand a higher level of proficiency in all four components – reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
An overview of the English language requirement changes will be:
Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) will increase from IELTS 6.0 to 6.5 without one skill retake
Student visa (Subclass 500) will increase from IELTS 5.5 to 6.0 with one skill retake
ELICOS will increase from IELTS 4.5 to 5.0
University foundation or pathway programs that deliver English language training will be an IELTS 5.5
