What is Temporary Skill Shortage Visa?

 

Temporary Skill Shortage Visa Subclass 482 (TSS) enables employers to address labour shortages by bringing in skilled workers where employers can’t source an appropriately skilled Australian workers.

The TSS has 3 different streams :

  1. Medium Stream – Applicant can stay and work in Australia for up to 2 years, sometimes 4 years
  2. Short Stream –  Applicant can stay and work in Australia for up to 4 years and they may apply for PR if they meet the eligibilty criteria
  3. Labour Stream – This stream is for skilled workers nominated by employers who have Labour Agreement. It allows skilled workers to live and work in Australia temporarily
Requirements: 
  • Meet the required work experience of 2 year and qualifications requirements including skills assessment
  • Meet minimum English language requirements
  • Have substantially complied with any conditions that apply or applied to applicant’s last visa
  • Meet health and character requirements
  • Have an occupation on the Short Term or Medium Term List
  • There is no age limit for this visa

3 Steps of Application Process

Step 1: Sponsorship

  • Prerequisite approval required before an employer can sponsor for 482

Step 2: Nomination Application

  • The sponsoring employer required to show their genuine need for the eligible nominated full time occupation or role

Step 3: Visa Application

  • Applicants to provide accurate information and apply visa online in ImmiAccount

Benefits of this Visa

  • Work in Australia for up to 2 years for your sponsor or work in Australia for up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies
    or up to 5 years if you are a Hong Kong passport holder
  • Study (you won’t receive government assistance)
  • Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while the visa is valid
  • Can apply for Permanent Residency if eligible
